I have not talk about my freelancing job at all. (hint : boredfreelancer )
So I guess it is time for an update. :)
I started freelancing in 2007 as hobby, but now is it my source of income after I lost my full time job in 2009, due to the economy.
My client has grown from 2, to almost 15 as we speak. Doesn't seem a lot but these are recurring client. I am unofficially "their web designer and IT support".
I meet them once in a while, but sometime I was introduced through skype. 50% of my client have not met me in person. The power of technology.
Work can vary. Sometime I get a lot of tasks, but there's also a slow week. During the slow week, I usually try to find small gig (but sometime end up being another client). Or just do things around the house. The slow week are usually during "waiting for feedback" days. I don't usually look for another project during "feedback waiting phase".
I don't want to be to overwhelmed trying to maintain new client and old client at the same time.
My turn around time are pretty quick. I guess that's why they keep coming back to me. (I hope) :D
That has always been my priority. My focus is mostly small to medium size business. I do not dare to take a big business project unless I am in a team of people.
Even medium size can be hard to maintain because being a 1 man IT person, can be very very challenging. I basically handle their web hosting , email's setting and backup... ect ect.
I did not personally host their website, but I assist them in web hosting and domain registrations and such ( dns administration, domain masking, web transfer ) .
So well yeah that basically what I do. I am not just a web designer. I think a proper title will be web consultant and developer. I do mostly programming, but I still design once in a while.
I love what I am doing right now. I love managing my own work time.
I got my husband to thank for, for allowing me to go freelancing and give me full support, since the income varies.
I will get better at this.
Love,
Sometime not a boredfreelancer.
